President's Message

January 2018

Happy 2018 to all! I hope this year starts off fresh for everyone. I tell myself every new year that I need be more organized, it’s always been a goal of mine.  I start off strong, but as the year progresses and the workload increases the organization starts to fade. I believe this year will be different because I am determined, as you should be as well. A well-organized business and organization prospers the most.

So far, 2018 has started off a little bleak, as we have not had many storms come through California to give us any rain or snow, both of which are very important. Without storms to bring the snow pack up to a normal level, preliminary reports will state we are behind.  I am optimistic that we will catch up weather-wise.

As of January 1, growers are required to be compliant with the Food Safety Modernization Act meaning that growers are implementing procedures to keep food safe and clean from field to consumer. MCFB and CFBF will be providing training classes for growers for compliance.  Be on the lookout for information soon. I encourage you to visit the CFBF.com website to review the many other laws and regulations that growers need to be compliant with this year.  Please read up on all new legislation or call our office to ask questions. We are more than willing to help our members. I would also encourage all members to visit our website to stay update on what MCFB is doing locally to keep its members up to date on what’s in store for 2018.  There are many new regulations that will impact operations that may not be understood such as the minimum wage increase to $11.00 is only for those who employ more than 25 employees this year.

MCFB is also hosting a Water Forum; which will take place at Madera Community College, on January 11th. Please call our office to RSVP as seating is limited. This event will highlight information about: Temperance Flat, Water Bond, SGMA, SB-632, the ESJ Order and Water Credits & Exchanges.

On a final note, many of you may have seen the ads for our gun raffle, but I’d like to point out that we still have gun raffle calendars on sale.  There are few left, and sell for $100 each.  Drawings occur every Thursday during 2018.  Please call the office or stop by to purchase yours today. There are only a total of 520 calendars available making the odds of winning 1 out 10. Good luck!
