President's Message

April 2012

Hello –April already!  This year is sure moving fast.  The big rain storm this past month sure helped – doubled the amount of rain for the year.  It did help save irrigation for some crops and it was a pre-irrigation for other crops waiting to be planted.  MID held their annual meeting before the big storm so their water outlook wasn’t all that great; it wasn’t their fault, but with careful planning and carrying over water from last year we are looking at possibly a 45-day water season.  If we can continue to get a few more storms with more snow in the mountains, it should help extend the season.  With the short water year, there is sure to be more talk of agricultural vs. urban water requirements.  When this comes up, please tell people all water is urban.  The food people eat comes from water.  If our food was not eaten, we wouldn’t be growing it.

In this month’s paper are our scholarship recipients.  I had the opportunity of serving on the selection committee this year.  What a privilege it was to interview some really great students.  Visiting with these students reminds me that there is a lot of hope for the future.

And speaking of scholarship recipients, coming up on May 5th is an opportunity to sample some great wines, have a great meal and enjoy Baxter Black, comedian and cowboy poet.  Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us out at the BMX Ranch (formerly Cobb Ranch).  Please see our web site for all the details.

On the last Tuesday of March, we held a workshop on HSR right-of-way acquisitions.  It was a very informative meeting that talked about what the landowner’s rights are in the process and what you can do to protect your rights.  If you have received a letter from HSR, please contact our office so that we can be of assistance.

The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.

See Ya!
